A shamanic perspective on birth

From a modern psychology perspective much is spoken about the bond between mothers and babies and around secure attachment. Absolutely vital. 

I offer an ancient understanding of birth that gives mothers another perspective that can be so healing.

Babies come from the magic and mystery of life, essentially from the womb of Mother Earth.

As they float in the amniotic fluid they are not only hearing their own mother's heartbeat they are held and supported by the heartbeat of the Earth. A place where their consciousness is part of the earth- there is no separation. Their consciousness and the universe are one.

The birth process is naturally one of separation, yet within our modern birthing context, we have lost that understanding.

The deeper mystery and hence the teaching  is that the baby feels unsettled and unsure, because it's come from this consciousness of knowing that we are one and that there is no separation. 

Our beautiful babies have chosen to be born on this earth and to become separate. The journey of being human. 

I'm not saying that it needs to stay in the womb.

What is needed is a ceremony to honour that separation and to allow the baby's soul to be honoured.
